POSITION SUMMARY
The Business Service Engineer assists in functional (customs) aspects of the customer’s customs filing business: incident/problem management, documentation, customs relation management, management of small projects, …
The Business Service Engineer interacts closely with external parties, our customers, local and foreign Customs offices and internal parties like the Service Desk, First and Second Line Support, Product Development, Service Managers and to a certain extent with the Descartes Sales organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Your responsibilities are situated in the following domains:
• You provide support to customers with functional issues.
• You manage functional issues and problems.
• You identify and document use cases (scenarios) for the users, workflows and tasks that need to be performed by First Line Support or the Service Desk.
• You create and maintain a daily relationship with Customs (helpdesk or higher).
• You inform your team and the Service Desk of any changes in Customs (legal, unavailabilities, emergency procedures, ...).
• You implement and follow up on short term actions (go live, phase out, ...).
PROFILE
• Experience in Logistics business related to Customs affairs.
• Good understanding of the basic supply chain processes (import, export).
• Good understanding of Customs legislation and Customs processes (import, export, transit).
• Knowledge of sea port and airport goods and information flows.
• Knowledge of Customs Warehouse, IPR, OPR, AEO is a plus.
• Knowledge of Electronic Customs Software is a plus.
• Interest in automated processes, Software and IT in general
SKILLS AND ATTITUDE
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to write clear, detailed requirements and specifications documents
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to be effective and proactive in a sometimes stressful environment
• Knowledge of and experience with IT projects (EAI, B2B, …)
• Creative, entrepreneurial and out-of-the-box thinking mentality
• Good presentations skills and willing to speak or meet the customers in person
• Thorough understanding of the standard Microsoft Office applications, as well as active user of the new social media on the internet
LANGUAGES
• Excellent knowledge of Dutch and English (speaking, reading and writing)
• Knowledge of French and German is an asset
LOCATION
You will be based at our Descartes office in Lier, Belgium.
You are willing to occasionally travel abroad.
